In December 2025, I had the privilege of purchasing a beautiful, one-owner 1966 Corvette 427 Coupe from Bernie Tewalt, a proud U.S. Army veteran, and his wife, Mary.
For nearly 60 years, Bernie had cherished and carefully preserved his Corvette, caring for it with the same pride and dedication a soldier gives his trusted rifle. But when the time came to part with his beloved car, Bernie knew this was more than just a sale. It was about passing its legacy to the next caretaker.
As a fellow veteran who served in combat during the Vietnam War, I understood the significance of that moment. It was, in many ways, a changing of the guard.
As the Corvette pulled out of Bernie's driveway for the final time, he stood proudly at attention and raised his hand in one last military salute.
No words were necessary.
Nearly six decades of pride, devotion, and memories were captured in that single heartfelt gesture. Fortunately, Bernie and Mary's daughter, Becky, recorded the unforgettable moment on video.
When we shared the video on Instagram, we never imagined the response. It has since received over 3.5 million views, hundreds of thousands of likes, more than 1,100 comments, and countless shares, touching hearts around the world.
But this story isn't about a viral video. It's about loyalty, respect, and the special bond between a man and a car he treasured for a lifetime.
Bernie's Corvette may have departed for its next duty station, but the memories will always belong to him.
As its new caretaker, I consider it both a privilege and honor to preserve its legacy.
